EV Home Charger and Channel Installation in Surrey

Charge your electric car at home in Surrey, even without a driveway

Surrey, a county in South East England known for its suburban and rural areas, is increasingly adapting to the rise of electric vehicles through a growing public charging network and an emphasis on home charging solutions.

For residents in suburban areas such as Guildford, Woking, Weybridge, and Esher, where many homes have driveways or garages, installing a home charging station is both convenient and cost-effective. In more densely populated or urban areas of Surrey, such as parts of Epsom, Redhill, or Reigate, where on-street parking is common and homes may not have private driveways, charging can be challenging.

Our cross-pavement channel allows residents to install a cable gully into the pavement outside their home and easily charge on the street without causing hazards, and you can save around £1,100 per year compared to using public charging.

Surrey County Council kicked off a trial of Kerbo Charge in 2024, at 12 sites across the county. If the product is rolled out across Surrey, then it’s expected to significantly accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles by residents with street parking.

Michael Goulden, CEO and Co-founder of Kerbo Charge said: “Surrey has one of the highest rates of EV adoption in the UK but until now moving from petrol or diesel to electric has been much less attractive for residents without driveways. I’m delighted Surrey County Council is trialling home EV charging channels as they really do tackle an unfairness that needs addressing if we’re going to hit our net zero targets.

How it works for Surrey residents

Using a public charger for a single charge can be around £25 more expensive than at home (source: Zap Map), meaning many people are taking risks and having to find alternative solutions when they don’t have a driveway. These photos show how our solution makes charging easy for residents with street parking.

Simple.

Residents plug into their home charger, feed the EV cable through the cross-pavement channel and plug into their vehicle on-street.

Safe.

The channel is completely flush which ensures there are no trip hazards for pedestrians using the footpath. It’s heel-safe too!

Secure.

Insert your cable and the specially designed lid snaps down behind just like a zip.

Frequently asked questions from Surrey residents

  • Our duct takes the Type 2 cable, which is the standard cable for all UK electric cars.

  • Most charging cables are long enough to reach either one space up or one space down from directly outside your house. Still taken? We find most residents just wait until the space becomes free and then move their car over.

  • We can install in to bitumen, paving stones, and brick surfaces.

  • Although the channel is strong enough to withstand the pressure of any UK vehicle, we do not install across roads because it’s not entirely safe for you to be positioned in the roadway while you insert and remove your charging cable.

  • It is possible but not recommended - it involves ground excavation and laying of a concrete base which is often undesirable due to the permanent removal of green space.

  • Yes, we can provide both the duct and the wall mounted charging unit, or just the duct.
